Oil absorbent/anti slosh sponge

Tech busts my balls every time I go through for not having something in my belly pan to keep oil from spilling out in the case of a blown up engine. So to keep them off my back I've been looking for something but I can't seem to find anything.

This is what I had in one of my older belly pans and it seemed to make them happy



I would transfer it over to my new one but I gave one away when we sold a bike and the other I can't seem to locate.

I'm looking for ideas or products that I can buy and stick to my belly pan that would do the job.

I've used puppy training pads. Absorbent. Cheap. And they even hold gas without breaking down. Ill use them in my garage under the bike if I'm doing any maintenance just in case something drips/spills. Available at your local walmart.

Those are neat, but what about coolant? Would it absorb the glycol and leave the water?

I don't know specifically about the mats in the link but Pigmat makes pads that absorb both oil and water, just need to find the correct one.

Good point, duh for me. (Yes I HAD water in my bike, just forgot about the only water part once I started watching the New Pig video.) Still don't want to be dumping water on the track if avoidable.

You would have to catch me before you could "stuff" me in any corner. For that matter you would have to get your bike running to make the starting grid... I'm gonna miss playing this year

I was going to say maxi-pads or something of the sort. They even come with the adhesive stuff on them. Stick it onto the lower, if it needs to be changed, peel it off and stick on a new one.

Ok I'm gonna ask the stupid question here.

1) I've never been called out for not having something like this, should I be concerned that I will this year?
2) Can something like this be used instead of a catch can? Or is a can still required and this is simply another fluid retention thing for extra safety?

First I've heard of this in LRRS, (Don't see it in rulebook) but we require diapers in the belly pan over at the USCRA.

"2. Belly pans are required on all machines.
The belly pan should
be constructed of a suitable material (i.e steel, aluminum or
fiberglass) and be of a sufficient size and depth to adequately
cover the surface area of the bottom plane of the motor and have
the ability to contain at least 3 quarts of oil (4-stroke), and 1.5 quarts
of oil (2-stroke). The belly pan must be affixed to the chassis at a
minimum of three points and must contain an absorbent material
created for the sole purpose of containing oil."

Though likley to be technically correct, Johnny B also mentions that he cannot find it in the rule book, it isn't a bad idea to have in your belly pan on any bike. Anything we can do to keep oil/water from a catastrophic failure on our own bike from gettting on to the track surface only helps to protect not only ourselves but also our fellow riders.

If there is room in your belly pan to fit an absorbent pad of some sort without interfering with your exhaust etc. it would be a great addition.
