Try a 2500 megacab dodge. Longest wheelbase they make. Same as a quad cab with 8' box. I had to park on the edges of parking lots because the truck was a few feet longer than the spaces. Add to that a solid front axle meaning it took about 3 square miles to turn around. I would never have owned that truck in the city.

01 Ram 1500, like everybody else not everything fits with the gate closed. One thing to remember with a pickup, ALL your stuff is exposed to the elements unless you have an enclosed trailer. I'd like a box van like a u-haul, no windows and a ramp. 4x4's sit high and after a day at the track it's a bitch getting the bike back out, long way to the ground while trying to hold the bike.
GSXR750 GS650 Street Tracker
I've used a 6cyl Ranger, regular cab, short bed. Bikes fit with the tailgate down. I also sometimes use an F250 w/ a tool box, because of the box tailgate has to stay down. Also been known to use a Frontier, which has the short bed. All that said, # of doors does not effect bed length. Go for the 8' if you care.
I don't have any pics of the bikes in the Nissan or the F250. I only have this one because I was on the way to trade my first street bike for a dirty bike, and realized I didn't have any pics of the bike.

Tundra regular cab 8' bed. There is still plenty of space inside and you can get a tool box for the bed if you need more. This truck rips with the 5.7 and still gets 17 mpg mixed if you drive like an adult.
I had a Taco before it that did not too much better on gas. My zx6r fit fine in the back with the 6.5 bed but you to leave the gate down.
if you need... you can always pull your bike in this trailer with as little as a regular old v-6

I had a Chevy 1500HD 4x4 Crew Cab long bed (6'5"?). Two street or 3 dirt bikes fit with the tailgate up. GREAT truck until some idiot turned left in right in front of me.
I have Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Crew Cab long Bed. I haven't tried 2 street or 3 dirt bikes, but 1 street and 2 dirt bikes fit easily. I wanted the bed long enough for the back tire to fit in the bed, not on the tailgate, and the Tacoma bed was just big enough. I'm not a fan of the plastic bed or the cheezy tie-downs/bed rails.
I liked the Chevy better, but the Tacoma gets 21+mpg and I'm starting to like that a lot.
I use Ready Ramps. I like that they can be used for ramps and as bed extenders.

I am a big fan of the Transit Connect, in theory (haven't looked at one up close). How do you secure your bike in there? Are there any anchoring points for straps?
Supposedly Ford will be bringing the larger Transit here as an E-series replacement, at some point in the near future.
The Euro vans rock. People in North America have no idea how great the vans and utility vehicles in Europe are....
no bikes currently
if your looking at o4 up f150 the doors do affect the bed. Most crew cab(4 door) models come with a 5.5ft bed. IT works fine you just have to keep the tailgate down if you have 2 bikes in it, can fit one diagonally with the gate up.
However if you search you can find a 4 door with a 6.5ft bed
or most extended cabs that have the suicide back doors are 6.5 ft beds

I don't know how you guys can haul motorcycles in such tiny anemic vehicles. Here's a picture of me and my F650, hauls bikes without breaking a sweat:
OK just kidding, actually I use a Honda Pilot with a Kendon trailer (similar to what user black is selling above -- this is an awesome product).
I really like the Ford Transit Connect, although what turns me off about that vehicle is the zero towing capacity, it'd be nice if you could hook 1000lbs to it. I didn't know you could get a Mitsubishi Mighty Max in this country, that is seriously awesome. I might look into one of those for my next car.
The real Ford Transits are coming, a relative who works at Ford is working on the US certification. They are really excellent vehicles, I've ridden in one in the UK. It took Ford forever to bring them here because they didn't want to cannibalize sales of the E series, which is like free money to them -- the last time they spent any real engineering money on the E series was probably during the Nixon administration.

My only knowledge is of 97-03 F150's, of which I've had two. My second one:
2002 F150 4x4, long bed regular cab. 6 strap points on the bed rails. Great for transporting. More than enough room for a bike. Extended cabs still have enough space for the average sportbike. They have 4 strap points. Put the tailgate down and you'll have more room.
My youthful self HAD to put a 4" lift in it.
Was really great before then. Custom built a ramp and everything. From experience I learned to ratchet strap the ramp to my hitch/bumper for safety. Lost a vintage headlight when the ramp slipped and my KZ flipped over...

I have a 06 Mega Cab with the hemi. I do wish it was diesel but it def does the job. Like brian said you can fit 3 mx bikes in it with tail gate down not to mention enough room for the pilots of the bikes in the truck. For traveling to Loudon I tow a 7x16 steel frame trailer with 2 -3 bikes and every tool you could need, camping gear, groceries, 4 ez-ups and what ever else you may need. Its def not a light trailer but my truck tows it well. The truck being long (same size as a quad cab with a 8 foot bed) and the 3/4 running gear, axles, make for good towing.
This is the truck and this is what I haul:
2001 Mazda MPV mini van! Take the middle seats out, fold the back seat down, put down an eight-foot 2x6, and an SV1000 fits in (er, after you take off the windscreen).
That little van has held an SV, a VF1000R, an RD400, and a CB750. Just not all at once.
Let the laughter begin!
