Looking to switch my ignition to a toggle switch now that i switched front ends on my R6 and the initial ignition key and everything dont line up. Does anyone know if i need a certain type of toggle switch? I've read up and know how to do the wiring. Just curious what others have used as a toggle that has worked well for them.
Thanks!
I bookmarked this in case I ever had something similar come up... maybe it'll help you out?

If you're going to just do a toggle, toss it under the seat kinda tucked away so only you know where it is.
I can post a picture of mine tomorrow night

Anything in the drawers at radio shack will work. Which one to use is entirely up to your personal preference. I prefer rocker switches to toggles because they're less likely to get bumped inadvertently turning the bike on or off when it isn't intended.

at one point i had my ignition hooked up to the kill switch. flip the kill switch on and the bike comes on.
when it didnt work i put it all back to stock and then realized it still didnt work. thats when i found a broken wire. at that point i had chased the broken wire for an hour and didnt feel like going back to the kill switch ignition. it was pretty easy though

dont think i could ever go keyless on my streetbike... the SV track bike tho is wired up keyless off of the kill switch and its really nice not having to worry about losing the key at the track or in transit

I went keyless on my R6 race bike. The only thing I would note is to buy a waterproof switch, like from a marine/boat supply company.
One time I trailered up in light rain and then put my bike in the garage. The next morning my battery was dead. Water had gotten in the switch and shorted it out, causing the ignition to turn on and off all night. I blew it out with compressed air and it was fine, and ziptied a rag around the triple for the ride home. Luckily I didn't learn any of this on track during a rain race or something.
Later I got the correct switch, only like 8 bucks.

What type of bike? Some, like the SV650, have a resistor built into the ignition switch, which prevents the bike from being started, if removed. You have to put a resistor in-line. That said, here's the switch I installed on my 99 SV:
I found it by Googling for "water resistant rocker switch". It's basically a marine switch.

thank you all for the responses! i like the idea of the boat switch as ive been caught in some light rain during track days here and there. the bike is a 99 r6, i've read up and it doesnt have all those resistor and other wiring issues you have to worry about with the sv650's.
Ha. I didn't put that switch there. One of you LRRS knuckle heads did.. then you raced the piss out of the bike, crashed it 12 ways 'til Sunday, then sold it to someone who sold it to me. First thing I did is take it out in the rain @ a Penguin track day and high-side it. Later I low-sided it.. right onto that side.
Ignition switch has never given me any trouble.
The problem with the switch in that position is you have to find neutral before reaching down to turn the bike off. Or reach across the tank. It is awkward. But I certainly do not worry about it ruining my weekend.
I keep thinking of doing the RFID ignition on my bike... Maybe one day I will.
