Is 41k reasonable mileage for a gen 1 SV650 that may be tracked.. do they take the miles pretty well? What kind of stuff to look at for this kind of mileage?
Also read there is about a 10HP difference between gen1/2, but also read the opposite.. is there really much of a difference when it comes to power?

Add 100k to that and mine was still running like new power wise with perfect compression but beginning to use oil due to worn valve guides, 99s had the strongest cranks
stock 2nd gens have about 6-7 more hp, but 1st gens are easier to add hp and can make more once modified, the engines start to become a grenade once you get above 80-85 hp
41k on a SV is still a baby, I didn't do track days per say, but did do several 1000 mile + days, maybe only 5% of my miles were hooliganism, but that is still several thousand miles, also did severe (below zero°f) riding, heavily loaded miles, etc.
track days are not the worse beating , short slower commuting trips are the hardest on the engine

things to look for with that miles are not engine related, lever perches, worn shift linkage, calipers, etc. I found I had to replace the clutch perch & lever every 45-50k, calipers were beyond rebuilding by 60k

If the price is right and the bike is in good shape I would not hesitate. Actuall condition >>> what the odo says.
I'd always rather a well-maintained, higher-mileage bike with service history than a poorly-maintained, low-milage bike with nothing.

i estimate about 65-75k miles on mine. motor has never been apart. original clutch. shes down on power for sure but still makes me smile around the track and rewards me when i "get it right" by being faster around the track then a 15 year old bike making less than adequate power with 275lbs of rider and gear aboard it.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

Buy this and strap on the SS motor for sale and you've got a new bike.

Well I think someone snapped it up this morning, was a great price @ $1,200 and pretty clean.
I've heard good stuff about the SV650's reliability, if we've got gen1's with 100k+ and no major rebuilds that's a pretty good sign to me.
Seems like a perfect toy to take the place of my GS500 with similar affordability/flickability but lots more power.

I have 53k on my 2005 fwiw. No internal isues yet-just normal wear items so far.

First you screw, then you bolt.

Oh, why not. For 1200 you would have had all sortsa fun even if it needed stuff. No idea what mileage any of mine ever had/has.Yes, they take the mileage well and are sturdy. I put a stock eBay mystery engine ($560 shipped!) in my 1st gen and proceeded to ride 2 years of track days and 2 years of very busy racing. Might have won a coupla AM championships and come in 2nd for overall AM points. Motor still has the same 205 psi compression it did when I bought it. Valves have never been adjusted. Stock clutch as far as I know. Rotella oil change every other race round, or when I remembered. Transmission still works perfectly even though I (shudder) shift without the clutch up and down. When I changed to GP shift there were several instances of brain fade wherein I downshifted at redline from 4th to 3rd somewhere North of 100mph. Motor seems to have a sufficient engineering safety factor for that. It does not leak or make any noises other than buhWAAAH when asked to.
All that being said, a good condition, well maintained bike is worth spending more, and lower mileage examples of those are around. Patience, persistence, and cash in hand are your friend. Don't buy a stocker that sat outside and got ridden in the salt and is now in boxes preserved in mouse piss. Wheelies destroy cranks due to oil starvation, so do avoid that.
* Standard SV advice- If it's for track only (or mostly) for the love of God buy one that's been done up, it costs almost no more and saves you thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours.

bwaaaaaa!
205-210 compression is what mine had when I took it apart boxed it and preserved it in mouse piss, also converted to GPshift no downshifts @100, but a couple of revs to redline in second 65-70mph and then downshifting back to 1st accidentially
$1200 for one with only 41k? hard to find a better deal than that
even in a mouse piss soaked box, with original stocker shock with 150k, I wouldn't sell my box as a package for less than $1k, its too easy for me to pull more than that for parts, excellent 1st gen tank, no rust, or dings, frame with clean title, wheels (4 total cause I have an extra set) before I even get to the small stuff
