My current shed is filled completely with too many projects so I need a place to store some of the less used bikes for the winter. Im thinking of getting a portable shelter from tractor supply or lowes just to give me some play room. Has anyone tried one and had it actually last more than a few months? Im looking at the 3-400 dollar ones. They dont look to sturdy and im afraid the snow will just ruin them. Id like to get a metal carport but they are a bit to pricey for me right now.
I looked into these last year....I just still don't like the idea of a bike being stored in a somewhat flimsy shed, while still being exposed to the low temperatures.

for similar reasons... we got a 'stronghold storage shed' . home depot sells them for (i want to say) 500, 600... if you could pick it up. the reviews are great, it holds up strong & sturdy... i don't have to worry about rotting or something flimsy. almost 5" diameter branches gave it a beating during the "tropical storm" a few months back. it could house the dirtbike, or the trackbikes side by side... but currently holds all the other crap so we can still keep both cars and all three bikes comfy cozy in the garage.

bought my shed for 2000$ 10x10
decent quality wood, filled all the little gaps with foam, painted + stained it inside out with the best paint I could possbily buy.
its 100% waterproof and very sturdy but the track bike will still be exposed in low temps. the 1000 is spending the winter in the living room lol
I've had a 10x20 shelterlogic for many years now. I had to replace the top once and now the door had begun to wear out. We're talking 7 years or so now. The worst thing about them is the inside moisture. Unless you have the upper vents they are just like a green house. Rust may grow on most things. Snow has not been an issue. Again, its the moisture that builds on the inside then drips on everything.

I havent seen anything about vents in them. I figured they were self venting somewhat. The 10x20 is what im looking to get. I planned on mounting it to a landscaping posts and maybe a tarp floor.
I just had a big shed built but its already too small. It was fine in the planning stages but as i was building it I kept buying more bikes and saying itll fit. Its my jetskis that ended up eating up the most room. They are so big and bulky to move around but they are both due for tear downs this year so i gotta be inside. Whatever route i do it has to be removable in the warmer months so im not hording real estate.
problem with mositure on bikes in a shed, garage, or trailer? Keep a fan running on low- 24/7---moisture GONE!!
I have the 12x20 shelter logic shed with the 2" tube. I am on my 3rd year and the tarp needs replacing. But it has been up and survived Irene among other storms. I DO, go out and take the snow off the roof religiously. But for a couple hundred bucks it is well worth it.

Do you leave it up year round? Other than winds and snow it seems like the real killer of those is the uv damage from the sun. It looks like if you can keep it out of direct sun or store it like im planning to do in the summer itll last alot longer.
Im also working on an alternate plan. Im looking into making one out of fence tubing and corrigated roofing. Itll be sturdy, cheap and compact when i take it apart.
I have one of these too, the 10x10 version for my 2 bikes. It works alright. I had the first one for about two years and the snow from last winter killed it. It was my own fault though i let too much snow pile on top but it never collapsed, just slowly started ripping. When i bought the second one i used the frame from the first one for more support and it seems like it'll hold up to anything now. I also leave it up year 'round and the only issues i had was from the crazy amounts of snow last winter. I got my 10x10 for $180 shipped through homedepot.

Had a car port enclosed one from Harbor fright yrs ago, it was in the $400.00 range.
I used a frame from a previos , and welded in extra arch supports on top. Worked well for about 4 years. Bungies weakened , and wind took advantage of the weak spots along with uv deterioration.
I stored lawn mowers and quads and anything that was meant to be subjected to temp. It was not sealed , so there was no real problem with moisture and condensation.
In the barn, which has a lot less air movement I had a big problem with temp chang and condesation. anything metal that holds a lower temp, stays cold when it gets warm, and sweats like a glass of ice water on a humid day. I've found puddles in my tools box.
As for the carport or shed, taking it down every year sounds like a great idea , but
If you don't have enough room for it now, what are you going to do with it in springtime when you have even more stuff ?

I did end up getting a nice shelter logic one. looked nice and went together well. Sadly a tree crashed right on it a day after i put it up during the storm we had. I havent even buried it out yet. I hadnt transfered much over to it yet so im good there. I did start selling some of my excess items now though because im not going to be doing another one of those.
