    Re: Scooter fans...?

I bought a 1984 Honda spree just about a year ago. I LOVE IT! I put about 800 miles on it since I bought it, and have a big grin on my face every time I come home.

I look ridiculously big on it, I don't care. Its got a milk crate zip tied to the back that makes me look homeless, I don't care. I have to take the long way home from town because there is a hill too steep to climb right by my house, I don't care. The speed limit around town is 30mph, the scooter is all I need. Its great for beer runs, bringing recycle stuff back, quick trip to the overpriced local market, fill the lawnmower gas can, or toke up and hit the open roads out into farmland (speed limit is over 30, but zero traffic). I've threatened my coworkers that I'm going to ride it to work someday, maybe this summer. Its the best $500 bucks I ever spent!!!!!

an 18 pack fits perfectly under the seat of the ruckus. Like it was designed for beer runs.

The Aprilia 50cc scooters are not created equal. I'm told they'll do 45mph with a light rider.

I always toy with the idea of buying a Big Ruckus. Or even the V-Strom's special cousin, the Burgman.

It still annoys me that every time I look up the P/N for the filter for my 'strom it lists it as FILTER, OIL - BURGMAN. I'm not normally one to give a damn.. but that one rubs me wrong.

    Re: Scooter fans...?

So someone school me on old-fashioned Mopeds? There are some old Motobecane, Peugeot etc and some newer ones from Tomos and Sachs. Prices are all over the map, from $300 to some dude in Somerville who is buying them, doing some refurbishing them and selling them, so $300 to $1,200.

I know practically nothing...except, when I was 10 or 11 my parents took us to France and Switz. These were EVERYWHERE...

    ... along with these...

The high points of that trip were my brother and I doing Bumper Cars outside of Paris somewhere, and my getting to ride one of those Mopeds. I believe that was where my need for motorised two wheeled transport went from a vague desire to an obsession!!!

Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha all started this way.

    I've gone modern with a 48V LiFeP04 electric.

Since we're dragging the discussion to mopeds. My first ever motorized bike was a Puch moped similar to this:

My dad had it on extended loan. We cleaned it up, got it running, and I ripped it around the neighborhood for a summer before he sold it for the owner. I think I once saw 30 MPH on the speedo, riding down hill, with the wind at my back, in a full tuck. Rode it all over my corner of town without a license or any form of registration .. and never got a second look. Pretty sure you can't do that no more.
You can in CT. Mass is for suckers. Oops, I meant NH is for suckers...

Once a sr50 pops up for a reasonable price (most people want near 2k for one 10 years old) I'm buying it. Calling dibs right now.
