Just noticed the RMV here input 45,000 miles on my title instead of 4,500. Is there an easy way to get this corrected? Bike has 4,600 on it now.
Hhahha that is like my sv title said i had 105,768. Previous owner checked that box and I didn't see it :/

Here's the main page: https://secure.rmv.state.ma.us/Polic...settstitle.htm
Correcting the Odometer Listed on the Massachusetts Title
To correct the odometer reading listed on a Title, customer must submit the following documents:
• Completed Title Amendment Form. All owners must sign the application form
• Notarized Affidavit of Correction, written by the person who made the incorrect statement, attesting to the true and accurate mileage of the vehicle. This statement must be witnessed and signed by a notary public. If the person making the statement is acting on behalf of a company, the affidavit must be on company letterhead. Faxes and photocopies are not accepted
• The original Certificate of Title
• Title Amendment Fee. Please see the Title Fees section for the applicable fee
The Notarized Affidavit of Correction must contain:
• The vehicle description: Including VIN, year, make, and model and Title number
• Statement of the incorrect mileage and what the correct mileage is
• Affidavit must be on business letterhead if the person making the affidavit is acting on behalf of a business
do you know if I have to take that back into the RMV or mail it in?
I'm moving to CA...would it make sense to get this sorted before I leave or fix it in CA when they issue a new title?
I'd say fix it here in case there's any hoops you have to jump through.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
Because tracking down the previous owner and getting them to give you a notarized affidavit is so easy.
Absolutely get that fixed before moving out of state....
RMV fucked up something (mileage I believe) on Wordtooyomamma's bike and told him HE would have to pay for the new corrected title.
49 states do it one way, and Massachusetts does it their own way.
I'd just roll with it. I can't remember which, but I know it happened to 2 of my bikes. Both subsequent purchasers understood and didn't make a gripe about it.
Plus, it could justify a ridiculously low price written on a bill of sale to help save the new owner some sales tax, if you know what I mean.

I'm going to have to roll with it. It's $25 for them to issue a new title due to THEIR screw up. I'm moving this weekend and it's just not worth the aggrevation.
I'll look into getting it corrected out west but I've come to terms with it if i can't. Just have to remember that DMV employees need their work triple checked.
They suck
I took my time but finally changed title/registration to CA. Since they had to physically verify the mileage on the odometer, the new (CA) title now reads the proper mileage. I wonder if a CarFax report will show a mileage issue...not that I care.
I'm convinced that if Dinosaurs were still around, we wouldn't have anyone to work the registry. They screwed up my boat trailer registration a number of years ago. After about 8 times back and forth at the registry, each person wanting something else, the guy at the wildlife place gave me the forms I needed and the procedure to fix the registry's problem. He knew exactly what they did, said they did it a lot. Funny, the guy who doesn't even work in that division knew what was going on better than the mouth breathers that were trained to be behind that counter.
Anyway, glad you got everything worked out. Sounds like CA's extending inspection regimen worked out for you.
