Anybody have experience with this? my buddy said it shouldn't be a problem getting a bike plated in NH, so planning on signing it over to him, and letting him title/register it. After this, it should be easy to use this NH title to register it in NY.
Just curious if anyone has done this.
Not I but I have a friend from MA that bugs me to do the same thing. I don't get it. Just make sure nothing can come back to bite you or your friend in the ass before you do it.
In VT you'd get screwed with 6% sales tax, so that makes no sense to do, IMHO
i had a guy working for me that lived in Oregon. We were working in CT/MA/RI. CT wouldnt let him register his truck he bought here because he didnt have a CT license. We sent him upto VT and he registered it at his home address in Oregon with no issues.

My bro got his old XR 650 registered here without much fuss
Just fill out the paperwork (online VT DMV) and send it to the VT DMV with a check.
It will work.![]()

Well Daviid mentioned doing that. I know some fellows from CT that come up on weekends, all their vehicles have VT tags. They all live in CT full time. So yea, it will work...but like I said, 6% sales tax on low book value, I think it's low value at least. Call the VT DMW (good luck with this one) heh heh
I believe the way to get it done in NH is you need to bring the bike to an inspection station and have them sign off on the bike that it meets all of the safety requirements for the road. Then go to a town hall with the paper work and get it registered. Most town halls don't know about the safety inspection. I have never had to do one in the past.
Kitt- Do you have property in NH? If so just go to that town hall with your bill of sale and or certificate of origin and try to register it. It will probably go right through.

Yes an out of state resident can register a bike in VT, but on M/C's less than 300 c.c 's no title will be issued.

NH will not issue you a title. They just make you get it inspected at a MC shop so they can make sure you have a Tail/Brake light, left hand Mirror, and a Horn. When the guy asks for your left directional use your hand signal they taught you in drivers ed, same for the right. Once he signs off on this all you need is a bill of sale and go to the town office and viola your in.
I have done this with 3 bikes now.

So apparently if you live in Mass, and reg a bike in VT you can get fined for evading state taxes.
You'd have to sign it over to someone in VT, NH, where ever...so long as you live in Mass. I previously mentioned make sure it doesn't come back to bite ya in the ass. It looks as if it very well could if you're not careful. A friend wants to sign his truck over to me and have me reg it and blah blah blah not interested.
I don't need cops calling me asking why so and so in boston is driving my truck. F that.
