So you may remember the original "Pimp yo helmet" thread from a month ago.. well..
Here's a few pics of my recently completed helmet, again done by Luke Dobie of LD Designs.
Pretty damn stoked on how it came out, I was especially nervous as to how the nebula clouds and galaxies would look, but they look killer. In the sun the whole thing really pops, the gold flake on the wings is just vibrant.
No 'action' shots yet.. since I have yet to ride muh bike
THX LUKE!
Oh yea. I've gotten questions on 'how much to do up this or that'. I honestly have no idea. If you have helmet painting questions, contact Luke directly. I'm just sharing the love

Oh snap, that shiz is off tha hizzy.
What are the "stars" made of, just painted on, or are they some kind of metallic flake, that'd be cool if they were, would really pop in the sun.
Looks awesome man. Get some shots out in the sun.........when it comes out again in 2 to 3 weeks.
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.
that came out great
Thats awesome.
I'd be afraid to actually wear it, its too nice!

Jetfire was a direct ripoff from the Robotech Gen1 Veritech fighter. Rick Hunter's before he got the skull & crossbones fighter, I believe.
I had a Jetfire (figure? toy?) when I was younger, and it was totally awesome. I also used to make models of Veritechs...

Yes that is in fact Capt. Rick Hunter's Veritech from the popular 80's anime series Robotech (aka: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross aka Macross). The Jolly Roger emblazoned VF-1's were part of Cmd. Roy Fokker's "Skull Squadron", friend and mentor to Rick Hunter, who never actually flew with the skull 'n' crossbones paintjob.
Speaking of Jetfire, I too had the Gen 1 version of Jetfire, and always said to myself "Wow, this guy looks JUST like a Veritech", even my pre-teen mind knew something was fishy about this, and you can read the whole story here.
I was trying to decide what I wanted to populate space, other than stars and gas clouds. The Millenium Falcon, the ship Firefly, some planets, perhaps a X-wing... then I came across this picture and it just 'fit' perfectly, plus I'm a big Robotech fan
/nerdmode off.
Thanks for all the comments (I'll be sure to pass them on to Luke) and good to see some other mecha/anime fans floating around. Maybe my next helmet will have Nausicca on it and some of the beasties from the Valley of the Wind.

/nerdmode off.
I thought that Hunter took over Fokker's squadron after Fokker was killed by the Zentradi. "A race of people bred for thousands of generations for the sole purpose of military conquest." I have the DVD set of Gen 1 and Gen 3 - love them Invid! Nasty buggers!

I remember Hunter taking over Skull Squadron after Fokker died () but I thought he kept the Red/White. *shrug* Not sure. Due to this thread, I decided to start rereading the Robotech books today

Pete, that's cool that you still have some of your toys. Hang on to 'em, they'll be worth some cake after a few years!

/nerdmode offand Hunter's takeover of Skull Squadron. Multiple times they refer to Rick's Veritech being emblazoned with the Skull n' Crossbones.
However, Max Sterling joins Rick with the Skulls (of course) and they keep mentioning how Max's Veritech is still trimmed in blue. So the question is.. does Rick's (Roy's old) fighter now have the red trim AND the skulls... or does it still rock Roy's yellow and blacks...
I'm sitting here watching Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind right now. Might have to rock some of that imagery on my next helmet...
