    Pictures of Big Green

Hey guys and gals, here's my ride! 2003 Kawasaki ZRX1200 in the fast color.

At Seawall on Mount Desert Island. Please excuse the pre-Spring chicken strip!

That's the slow color. Haven't you heard? Gray is the fastest. I love my ZRX and glad to see another Rexxer around here. What do you have for an airfilter in that thing? And what jet kit did you use?

'04 Grey!? With the nonadjustable forks!? Actually, my first test ride on a Rex was an '04 grey, and that's what hooked me.

I've got pods with an Ivan's kit, full Muzzy stainless system, Tealdo radiator, Works shocks, and right now the forks are on their way to Arizona to be Race Teched (just the rebound valves) by a ZRX guru--KWICK. Calipers are being rebuilt and blacked out as well.

Other mods are Mr. Wog seat, Holeshot Superbike bars, Oury grips, Napolean bar end mirrors, Couch fork brace and oil bar, stainless lines, custom clutch cover, and a whole bunch of other little tricks here and there.

    How about yours?

That seat is pretty pimp. And there's planty more free trackday stuff around bear mt too. But since you've shredded the rotary, you must've figgered that out.

All these blinged out rexes are making me wanna try one on.

Wow that is a really nice list of upgrades. That is similar to what I want to do to mine performance wise. Do you or would you ever have problems riding in the rain with the pod filters? My only concern is that rain would enter through them into the carbs and engine.

And mine just has a D+D slipon, Dynojet jet kit, ZG Sport Touring Windscreen, Aftermarket mirrors, a K+N Filter, and thats about it. I am planning to eventually have the suspension done up for my weight (135 lbs.) and put the pods on and get a good jet kit. The dynojet is ok, but I have a mild flatspot at about 5k which really blows.

    Here are a few pics.
Here she is as she sits now...getting a chain and new tire, as well as an oil and filter change.

Hmm...just thinking about it. What made you want to switch from the stock radiator?

Very nice, Smutty! I like the mirrors. Regarding pods in the rain--I've ridden in a lightning hailstorm on Storrow Drive and never even had a hiccup. Because of the way the bike is designed, your knees cover the danger zones. Even if the pods were to be exposed, it would take extreme cross winds and knife-shaped water droplets to penetrate the K&Ns.

You will be amazed at the HP and torque gain from a full system and good jet kit. Right now with a slip-on, you're not getting anything but sound. I also went up a few teeth in the back and down one in the front for crazy low end goodness. About the aftermarket radiator--a lot of guys had issues with leaks, so when I was involved in a minor accident in Boston (cab almost ran me over) I decided to go for the Rolls Royce of radiators and the thing is a tank.

So many Rexers run pods, it's almost the standard. Plus, they look badass and there is a mod you can do called the "Battery Out" kit, which relocates your battery right up under the tank and allows you fit fit an entire jug of milk in the under-seat storage compartment. I use it to toss in a second girl if I already have one on the back.

Any other questions, feel free to ask. Uncle Snakeskin Assless Chaps is a wealth of Rex knowledge as well.

The D+D was already on it when I bought the bike. It does sounds good, but I guess not so good in the performance category. I just don't have the money to spend on a full exhaust right now, but would love to have the power gains from pods and ivan's. Could I do the pods and jet kit and then get the muzzy when I find a good deal on one, or when I finally have the money to blow on it?

And I have looked at the battery out kit. The only thing that I did not like about that was that it required modifying the existing parts in order to complete the installation. I hate doing things to my bike that can't be reversed. And I thought the underseat storage was already big enough haha. I can put 4 foot long subway grinders in there!

You can make pods work with a bolt on can but you probably won't get it smooth everywhere. I'd say ride it the way it is and save yer $$$. Buy everything at once, including the battery relocating(or Ted's other kit that gives you more space but not as much as the relocating kit), have it all shipped to my house, than ride up here on a nice weekend day and we'll install everything.

I ran pods on my ZRX for 5 years and never had a problem. I did keep a plastic bag in the trunk to put on the pods if it was going to be parked outside in the rain. If you want to be "safe" & stealthy you can modify the carb side covers to mount WITH the pods.

By the way, my offer is null and void if you want to keep the airbox. I'm NEVER FUCKING EVER going to put carbs back into a zrx with the airbox in there. NEVAH!!!

I strongly recommend buying everything from Ivan if you're going to do it.

A stock ZRX makes 112hp, full system and well sorted jet kit(pods or airbox) makes 133/127hp. Regards, Jake

Haha sweet. And I was looking for vids on youtube of the Muzzy full exhaust to see how it sounds, and I cam upon this gem. I really wouldn't mind having one of these as an addition to the stable.

After riding Scottie's (pre shock upgrade and Ivan's kit w/ pods) this is on the next bike list.

Is there *really* any big differences between the 1100 and 1200?

    The major differences are:

-1100 steering is slightly quicker due to different rake
-1200 swingarm is way beefier than the 1100
-the 1100 has two horns, the 1200 has one
-the 1200 gives you a little more low end

I'm partial to the 1200. They handle like a pig until you dial the suspension and shave off a few pounds here and there. Swapping the stock exhaust for a full Muzzy system or Ti system will save you roughly 20-25 pounds.

Check out KWICK's bike Calista--I think he lopped around 100 pounds off of her:

Full system is next... looking for a Tsukigi full ti-system... or maybe full Akra.

*Way* beefier on the swing arm is a bit of an overstatement. Running the smaller rear tire also aids in the 1100's quicker steering. My 1100 flicks so quick now it's ridiculous, hides the weight of the bike very, very well.

That said, I'm going to have my steering head gusseted and the rear swing arm as well, along with some frame braces when / if I can score some. More rigidity is never a bad thing on an old-style cradle frame.

Hehe, just installed the Ivan's kit for Pods, it's amazing and basically "drop in" which is ridiculous. I got my Pods from Ted.

Bottom line for someone looking, buy whichever (1100 or 1200) you can find that's the cleanest and best deal and be happy with it.

Plus the 1100 has the all-black engine, not the multi colored side covers....

It's easy enough to get the engine covers powder coated black. Jake is talking to me about an HID headlight setup next. I am still on my quest for Galfer front rotors with blue centers. I love my Rex.

True, true--I've got a ZZR clutch cover and Eliminator Pulsar cover. The rest had to be powdercoated. Ivan's rocks, doesn't it? It took me less than two hours for the whole shebang, and that was in a Jamaica Plain parking lot.

Tsukigis sound awesome and Ti Forces are supposed to rock!

You should jump in on the Rex shenanigans at some point this season. There's a shit ton of us.
