Since I am commuting to work more and more often, my 'all-weather' teknic is just too hot for the heat we've been having.
I am looking for a lower-budget mesh jacket, and I think I have settled on the Shift Airborne.

Any opinions about this jacket, or shift gear in general?
Thanks a lot.
I hear ya, I've been commuting in a Fieldsheer Highland II suit and there's NO WAY I'm riding in anything over 80 degree heat in that thing.
So I got a Fieldsheer mesh jacket and wear that along with some jeans. It's got CE armor everywhere.
I would not want to go for a dive in that jacket though, not to mention jeans...the CE stuff may hold up for the impact but the mesh isn't going to do any good in a slide.
I've been looking at the Olympia GT Air, looks like a decent compromise with the panels that open up, but you still have a decent amount of protection on the arms etc.

I've got that shift jacket, definitely works for hot days...but isn't the most comfortable thing in the world. the padding moves around a bit but it isn't too bad. I've never crashed it so i dunno how well it would hold up but I'm sure it'll do what you want it to.
Fell in my mesh jacket last year at ~35mph. Jacket got a little scuffed up but held up really well.
what kind was it?
I have a joe rocket mesh I like it never down to test though

I don't trust joe rocket gear. From my experiences their gear is poorly made.
I road tested a Joe Rocket mesh jacket a few years ago. I hit the ground at about 30mph or so. The arm pad shifted slightly but that might have been because it was an x-large jacket and I am better snug fit for a large, how knows. The back pad worked great and over all the jacket held up very well. I only had a t-shirt on under the jacket. I now show it to my students when we talk about propper riding gear. No really to talk about crashing but I now show it as an option for warm weather riding when the question comes up about "but leather is too hot". I'd buy another mesh and pair it up with under armour.
ive got a JR santa fe. its about 80% mesh. perf leather on outside sleeves and shoulders. i like it. its actually cooler than not wearing a jacket. i think it because it forces air though the little holes.
the JR alter ego might work for you.

Having worn both mesh textile, and perfed leather, I prefer the perfed leather. Both need some movement to provide cooling, but the mesh not only lets air in but also sunlight. The leather is almost as breezy, but does a better job of insulating from both radiant and convection heat sources. I also trust the leather to provide better resistance to abrasion.

I have this one that I like, Vanson Leathers Motorcycle Jacket - Ventilated Garments
comes with a liner that does a good job of keeping the wind out.
Sadly its not being made anymore...
