I'm highly considering ditching my 1098s. I never ride it, its just too uncomfortable to commute on and I don't do much in terms of long day rides anymore. I thought about using it on the track but I love my 749 and quite frankly I just don't want that much motor.
I may sell it outright and not replace it, but I am also considering trading it only becuase it may make me feel like I am losing less money which I obviously will not be!
Bikes I am thinking about are...
1. A monster S4Rs, I lusted after this bike when I bought the 1098s just thought I wanted a "sportbike".
2. A speed triple in the SE red/white/black
Maybe a Brutale?? Ive never ridden one....
Open to ideas........but Id love to her from anyone who has ridden an S4r and the speed trip....
EVERYTHING is a repost

try a streetfighter and see what you think, awesome bike and you will already be familiar with the power...
If i could add to what i have, the streetfighter would be it.
Speed Triples are the worst!
They are all nice bikes. I recently made the switch to a naked and am very happy with the riding position. I can get aggressive when need be but I can also sit up and relax. If I had to pick one I'd say get a brutale but I'm biased.
all i know is that now that i own a duc (granted its not the typical duc) I dont think i can ride anything else... there is something about the character of the bikes that just sits right with me and the looks are second to none...
i also think this is my dream setup

Thinking about selling the RC and getting a standard as well.
There's something to be said for comfort when you get older![]()
Speed triple! Monster is nice, the new brutale is nice, but I wouldn't get one of the older ones (for several reasons), and I rode the new Z1000 and was really impressed. ZRX1200 is an awesome bike.
If I were to go naked again I would be looking very closely at the Speed. I've got 1,600 miles on the 1050 triple with my Sprint and I am absolutely in love with these engines.

The new Z1000 should be on your shopping list, for sure.
I miss my R1 soooo much, If i were to do it all over i would seriously consider an FZ but only if i could get the euro spec light and the brembos...
the motor is sooooo smooth and useful, its just too bad the R1 was not a good fit for me no more, my hips couldn't take it anymore... granted i had a chance to ride an FZ1 and although better still tight coming off my hyper...
I really would recommend the hyper but i have found that without a decent amount set aside to take care of the little quirks its not a bike for everyone, even though it seems a lot are jumping on the bandwagon...
for example, the seat has to be changed, the tank needs more range, the throttle is choppy as hell (damn you EPA), the suspension needs some more travel, and the ground clearence needs to be increased at least an inch or two in either the rearsets or overall or both...
again all of which can make the hyper the best bike ever, but without the funds its impossible...
granted i have now decided i want more like D/S tires a rear hugger that keeps sand away, and a few other mods...
this was fun at the same time pretty nerve racking

REAL hard to find a fault with the Street Triple R as well.
Interesting thread, like you were reading my mind. Today I sealed the deal to trade my 1125R for a 2010 Street Triple R. Thanks to eboos.
I used to owne a 2004 S4R. I've never ridden a Speed Triple, but I have riden a Tiger 1050 and will say that I LOVED the 1050. That thing has tons of power and is a lot of fun.
If it weren't for the dealer trying to stick me with the "destination and setup" fees as well as higher insurance premiums, I would have traded the Monster for the Tiger 1050 in a heartbeat.
I have had my Z1000 for a few years, it's comfortable, quick and handles reasonably after the mods.
Sure it's not European but it's not European pricing either and is modded enough to still turn heads... have had thoughts of selling recently but don't know what I would replace it with..
That's a real pretty Zed
Zed's Dead, Baby. Zed's Dead.
+2 on the Zed. I own a 2008, the 2nd gen for the current Z1000 and I've loved every waking minute I've spent on it. It's leagues more comfortable than any sportbike yet also aggressive enough to drag some knee if desired. It also stands out and gets a lot more attention than all the vanilla sportbikes out there.
I'm actually selling it if you're interested

save some $ and go z1000 or fz1. trade that duc and shit they would owe you money.
My bike started as a daytona 955i but 3 years ago I converted it into a speed triple. I've ridden it 1000x more since the conversion. I am seriously contemplating getting a newer 1050 speed.
