I was just wondering if anyone knew of motorcycle dealerships that will take cars in trade.

They used to sell used cars on the side, not sure if they still do but it's worth a call.
There is one I hear adds for all the time on the Radio, I believe in western MA. They take everything in in trade. Although I believe they are rather pricey.
i think that ad is windmill cycles
I steer clear of that place. Thought it was down near Bridgewater...didn't know they had one in Western MA.Originally posted by McBiggity

you can probably do it at BEST Honda in Nashua since it is attached to BEST Ford so they can probably hook something up. I think they sell Honda and Suzuki.
I sell cars and we take bikes in on trade, so I'd assume most dealer will take a car in on trade as long as they have connections/relationships with "wholesalers."
Speaking of Windmill Cycles I remember looking at their website, their prices always seemed high, but man, what an inventory to choose from!!!

I got quoted a price that started a thousand OVER MSRP!![]()

After the third time, I gave up and went to the yellow pages
and the second dealer I called made me a deal over the phone
and an hour and a half later, had my signature on the dotted
line.
I effing hate playing games when purchasing something.
"Let me go see my manager if he can approve this ...."
Looks like this might be a difficult thing to do (trade car against bike).
Sooo...anyone want a 98 Honda Accord?![]()
The first time I hear that I tell them straight out "If thats the way you work you might as well bring your manager back with you or you will be doing a lot of walking."Originally posted by Currently

are serious about that price, then it is obvious to me that they
don't want to do business.
I then walk out. (and they let me walk out ... stupid bastids)
3 friggen times ... 2 different salesman at the end of the summer
where it is time to make some floor space.
I then called Plaistow Power Sports and they treated me like an
intelligent customer. No bullshit, no games, very straight
shooting negotiations.
As far as I am concerned, I will travel the 40 + miles to be treated
like a customer should be treated.
I agree completely. I went to Bettencourts and basically told one of their salesmen that I was ready to buy a brand new '06 that day. Instead of taking me seriously the guy walked away from me to show some other guy a cruiser. I don't even think the guy looking at the cruiser was serious about purchasing a bike.Originally posted by Currently

Another thing that pissed me off was how they would not appraise the bike I was about to trade in. They kept saying that they would only do it if I brought them the title. They wouldn't even give me a ballpark figure.
Instead I went to Cycles 128 and got a great deal on my trade. The strange thing is that I have heard a lot of people say good things about Bettencourts.
Can I ask a dumb question - why would you want to lose money on a wholesale trade vs sell? Honda Accord is a top resale car.Originally posted by keeena

You would be much better served to sell privately - if resale value is a priority to you.

sometimes its a hassle to sell privately, i got a 97 cl (a premium accord with a v6) and i have had no serious offers in the past two weeks of posting it every whereOriginally posted by ancosta

Really surprised to hear that, as that's a desirable car. I sold a beater 92 Corolla a couple years back and that thing sold after about two days on craigslist. OTOH, the 98 Chevy Malibu I sold last year was a freaking nightmare. It took like six weeks, and people kept asking me, "Why do I want to buy this when I can get a Camry or Accord?"Originally posted by fasterthanu

It depends on what you are selling. I've sold 2 cars in the same day after just listing them 4 days prior, and getting asking price. I've sold a $15k boat in 15 minues after the first showing. WHen I went to sell my Ford SVT Contour, I had to trade it in because no one wanted to touch it with a 10' pole.
It really depends on what you are selling and how you are marketing it.
That Honda should be an extremely easy car to sell, any time, any place. Think about an extra $1k in one's pocket to put mods into the bike that would be replacing it. That is a whole season's worth of track days. Why piss it away on a trade in? It's not like trying to unload a Yugo or something![]()

OK so from what I saw of your acura ad, here's what I'd do:
1) Get rid of mentioning any custom stuff. I am sure you did a good job, but to the eyes of most, custom = fiddled with
2) Get the front & rear bumpers sprayed - will make car look much better
3) Replace floor mats, and clean interior. It looks dirty in the pics. Cheap floor mats, $20 autozone
I would guess that car to be $4k now but if you did those things you might get $5k+ for it, that isn't bad, +500 work to get another 1k resale. More importantly it will reduce the amount of time it takes to sell the car.

It can be a pain in the ass to sell privately. People have the perception that buying from a private seller is cheaper than buying at a dealer, so guess what? People want to look for steals when dealing with non-dealers. You have to sell your car CHEAP, or have a hard to find car. Cars like Accords, Camrys, can be found anywhere, so to buy from Joe Shmoe off the street it better be a damn savings over a used car dealer.
A few years ago, I had a 2000 BMW 323ci with low miles, and in perfect shape. It was the cheapest one online within 400 miles of my zip, and not one call/email in months. At the time I worked at a car dealership, and ended up just selling it to them...within a week it was sold, for more than I was asking. All the ads, exposure, security from buying from a dealer, ect., made it an easy sell.
