Where is the best spot for the transponder. I am heading over the Newport bridge on a daily basis. On helmet, windshield, in jacket? I stopped by the EasyPass building yesterday and they were less than helpful. "Keep it in your pocket but I cant promise it will work." "You got a windshield on that thing? Stick it there but I cannot promise it will work." "Most guys keep it in their pocket, I guess it works". Freaking idiots.
Where is the best location that does not result in tickets in the mail? Thanks!
Current: Looking.

Windshield worked fine for me. On the 1000 I dont have any stickers on the windshield though so I put it on pocket and pull it out as I approach the tolls
I tried a bazillion things and the easiest was in the pocket, take it out and hold it in the air... but the tape it to the windshield has been working for me on the last two bikes, the previous ones it wouldn't read. I had once had someone steal it off my windshield when it was parked, which pissed me off for the hassle..

I just rode to DC and back. I put it in my inside jacket pocket when I rode the Mass Pike, and I don't think it worked at the first toll. It worked on the second. After that, I put it in my tank bag. I know it didn't work every time.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
I've been having problems with NH EZ-Pass lately. They have started charging a surcharge when the transponder does not read. Once was (kinda) my fault as it fell off the windshield onto the floor of the car one night and I didn't notice. The other time it was in the proscribed location and just didn't read. Had to call and argue to get those straightened out.
On my 'strom, I stick to the back of the windshield. That has worked every time so far.
I have also just taken it out of the tank bag and just kinda placed it on the dash.. that worked too, but one of these days it is going to fall off the bike.
I have also just hand held it and waived it in the air. That has not worked once or twice. I'm also not found of rolling through the booths one handed.
Moral of this story: stick it to yer windshield!
NH EZ-Pass folks will give out extra bits of that 3M dual lock stuff if you just ask. They are dicks about it though. I have not been able to source that stuff locally.
I don't carry mine at all, its sitting in my drawers at home. I just go through the tolls without it. They just bill my EZ pass account. What they do is that they look at my plates when I have a violation, see that I have a EZ pass account attached to my plates, and just bill my EZ pass account. Never had a problem and no hassle.

Then why the hell am I being surcharged?!? Buncha ass-hats!
I think you guys are mistaken for those in MA.
I've had plenty of problems with it, maybe I posted here. But here are the realities that I have come across:
You get two "free" adjustments per month, after that, they will surcharge you a $1.00 vtoll amount for EVERY single one after. Also, you MUST either call or see them to actually sign an affidavit of which toll you entered in before. If not, you will get CHARGED for the ENTIRE pike distance.. ie they assume if you literally missed every single toll, that you will be charged as if you started at exit 1. The person whom I argued with said it's not a problem, as long as you check every three months to adjust it. So if you guys just assume it will be corrected, it sure will... but not in your favor!!
I have no idea if EZpass has changed the rules since it took over "fastlane" but this is what I had argued with for a few years in a row when I just didn't look it up until months later and was shocked to not only see the vtoll amounts, but also the inflated prices since they had no idea when you got on!
I stick mine on the inside of the windshield on my Sprint. It has only failed to read on an exit that reportedly rarely picks up bikes. Other than that it has worked every time (though I don't use it much).

Never had luck in tank bag or jacket.

pocket, if it doesn't get it then the cameras usually don't get the tags either.
I ride nakeds and there isn't usually a good spot. I've tried:
- Jacket pockets
- tank
- flyscreen
- holding it up
- taped to the front strap of a backpack near the shoulder
Most places on the bike are too close to metal to work.
Most places on my body are too vertical to work.
The only thing that has consistently worked is in the map pocket of my tank bag.
Tank bag keeps the transponder far enough away from metal and it seems to be at a good angle.
I never did try fastening it to my helmet.
my FZR600 windshield had a top corner, so I used two binder clips to attach at the top and at the side:
if you don't have a corner you can't attach 2 binder clips with, I don't recomend it. 1 on the top might not be enough...
I have never had a problem with the transponder being near or away from metal. Where I normally mount it on my windshield is right in front of a metal support. No issues. Also I've placed it right on top of a metal GPS mount without issue.
I think the issue is that there cannot be any metal between the transponder and the readers.
Isn't that backwards? Don't you want the label side pointed away from the readers? I really did think it mattered.

Probably more than you will ever need but you will find uses for it just because you have it lying around.

I got some extra velcro duallock stuff and have it on my windscreen, never had trouble with it. It never worked going through my jacket
I leave mine in the map section of the tank bag with no issues

I called them one day....You don't even need to have the EZpass on you, as long as the bike is registered to an EZPass. You go through, it lights up red, it doesnt matter because they search your plate and see its registered. I was having the problem of "Where to put it" and I kept putting it in places it didnt work (which included holding it up with my hand- not sure how that doesnt work...). I called them and they told me this ^^^
