Most of us here know that smaller bikes rule on the local tight tracks. Will Ducati put this new engine in a sport bike chassis and make it compete with things like the Kramer 690 and put out a new Supermono?

85hp out of a single?
If it's light enough, and will keep from grenading itself, then this could be SUPER fun.

I honestly wouldn't be too surprised. The Kramer seems to be pretty popular in a lot of circles and I'd be willing to bet that Ducati would put out something similar w/ this new thumper.

Have seen this linked to a new Hyper, which is cool. Would not be at all surprised if it ends up in a sporting chassis as well, which would be doubly cool.

Primary diff between this and Kramer is this is likely going to end up current Euro emissions compliant and in a street legal chassis, so getting those numbers WHILE pulling that off is impressive. In this motor's favor should also be the fact that unlike the LC4 it started life as a stressed member design so hopefully Duc should be able to build a pretty light bike around it?
Articles/spyshots indicate this will be a mini-Hypermotard aimed at competing with the 690/701 supermotos

Supposedly they are going into the 450 MX market too. Different engine obviously but as a company they arenÂ’t standing still by any means.

Hypermotard 698 Mono
77.5hp stock, 84.5 hp with Termi exhaust
332 lbs without fuel
$13k for the base, $14.5k for the RVE graphics and a quickshifter
Apparently it can wheelie

Oh and:
“The Hypermotard 698 Mono is a fun bike. Easy to ride, fun and with great style. For this reason, Ducati has created a dedicated clothing line.”

Yut UGGGH!! I'm inFurthermore, exclusively for use on the track, the Ducati Performance software for Ducati Wheelie Control is available as an accessory. This functionality can be activated only in association with the Termignoni Ducati Performance exhaust, not street-legal, and provides an additional assistance strategy called Wheelie Assist. In this case the electronics assist the rider in executing and maintaining a prolonged wheelie, regulating the angle using the engine torque delivered.
Sounds good, like the weight, but few $$$ more than a duke890R....![]()
I need it. Saving my pennies now.
Hypermotard 698. I think I’m in love, nice review.

Regarding the KTM offerings, this is much hotter. KTM really butchered the 690/701 with the subframe fuel tank, it’s hideous.

Hmmmm... How many times did I get pulled over riding wheelies on my 701? Too too many times!!! One Mass Statie wanted to run me over when he saw me blissfully on the back wheel riding down Plantation St in Worcester not far from the Greatbrook Valley "project". (probably thought it was a stolen dirt bike and one of the local project kids) Each time when I was pulled over and I pulled my helmet off they would wince with an incredulous look at my ugly old man face and gray hair. So stunned and shocked I would get a shake of the head and a warning to cut that shit out and act my age.
Do I want this bike? YES! Will I get one? nope. I will hold out for a $14.5k clip-on themed sport bike with the same bells and whistles as the RVE model. Lets hope it weighs the same 332lbs.

I'm starting to doubt this will ever see a roadrace chassis in this country anyway. It would also be heavier without a doubt.
I don't think the price tag on this is that outrageous though. 450MX bikes are over 10k. This is a new motor new chassis, new electronics, and it meets emission standards. It has more development in it than mx bikes. It will cost more. The 690 used an ancient motor platform. I do think the Duc needs to stomp it in HP numbers. So far that's not the case, but I'm willing to bet that the potential of this motor is much higher than the 690 and the aftermarket tuning will explode.
Not entirely related to this particular bike, but how does Ducati continue getting away with selling an exhaust + tune combo without running afoul of emissions standards?

With this being a street bike derived motor, I'm hoping longevity will be a non-issue compared to motard-ish bikes that have come before it.
Those maintenance intervals being advertised sure point to streetbike level durability.

Well fuck it.
Spring '24 has been marked on my calendar for several years as "new bike day." Just got off the phone with Razee; they don't do preorders, but they do keep a FIFO list for each incoming model. I am #1 on the list for when their allotment comes in for a Hyper 698 RVE.

Someone has to guinea pig this thing.
Bit of backstory.....the 890 Duke R has long been at the top of my list for next new bike. I have my Multi for any all-day excursions, storage needs, also it owes me nothing. I really miss track time. Want something I can hoon around town on and do some track days. Obviously the Duke does this in spades. I want something light weight, but not a lightweight (RC390...) I'm 6'3" so if I'm not racing, I really don't want a fully faired sport bike with clip-ons. I want new "tech" like up/down QS, adjustable TC, wheelie control, etc. The KTM 690 SMC (or the blue one, or the red one,) is conceptually exactly what I'm looking for (a bit more room than the Duke) but I cannot get over the fuel tank subframe. It's amazingly ugly.
This Hyper gives me the added space over the Duke, is lighter, and is sexy. The new Superquadro engine is potentially an awesome piece of gear and I love singles. This one is a no brainer, so whenever they call and say "it's here!" will be new bike day!
