In the old days, moto mags like Cycle World and Motorcyclist mattered. The writing was good, comparisons and reviews were well done. Sure, there was some advertising $ bias, but it was a business.
Then came the internet, and announcements and reviews could be available to the public in real time, not bounded by the print magazines’ publishing cycle. Immediacy took over, but often the production and writing was poor.
Cycle World’s Top 10 used to be a launching point for endless arguments about both their choices and even classifications.
For me, a Honda fan-boy, there was always validation in knowing there would be several on the list pretty much every year.
Those day are gone, only one Honda soldiers on among the top 10.
Here is the 2023 list.

I've been looking at that Best Middleweight, Suzuki GSX-8S (and now -8R). CW raves about the power plant, then I got to this: "The chassis keeps things simple as well, with the only available suspension adjustment rear preload to the KYB shock."
Plan on spending another $2k+ to suspend it.
And don't believe everything you think.
