Don't judge me!
2002 998 11K miles, due for 12k service. Sil moto exhaust, Sarget seat, PCIII, Helibars, Woodcraft/duncanmoto clutch cover, some carbon bits.
Nada $7k/ KBB $7600. Asking $7500. (because due for service) My bike in Vermont.
2004 ST4s 9500 miles, Aftermarket exhaust, not sure what else.
Nada $7500/ Kbb $7000 Asking $8500 Bike is at a dealer in Florida.
$500 to ship one way.
Sight unseen the dealer in florida started at $6000 in trade for the 998. I would have to ship it so that reduces it to $5500. Let's say I get them down to $7500 on the ST4s, that is $2000 PLUS my 998 for the ST4s.
It does not sound like a good enough deal to me but what do you guys think? Keep in mind this is FAR from a done deal.
Which bike do you think commands more money in an outright sale?

Do you ever Just think about things and make a choice your self?
You know more about Ducati the 98% of us.
every thought that passes your mind does not need to show up on NESR.

A little closer to home, National Powersports in NH has this FS:
2006 DUCATI ST3
$7,495.00
8,839 miles
But I dunno the diff between ST2, 3, and 4 sorry.
For sure you could elicit opinions at nedoc.org

ST3 vs ST4s (04 and up)
Both share the same chassis and bodywork. The ST3 gets a 992cc 3 valve Single OHC liquid cooled twin, the ST4s gets a 4 valve 996 DOHC motor yoinked straight from the famed 996 with a tweaked front head for improved tire clearance. The ST3 has more grunt off the line, hangs with the 996 to 8k RPM, then the 996 continues building power while the ST3 flattens out.
http://www.bikeboy.org/st3base.html has a great comparison dyno of the two motors. (Along with the 1000DS the ST3 is derived from.)
The ST4s gets an Ohlins rear shock with remote preload adjustment, plus fully adjustable Showa forks up front compared to the ST3's Sachs rear shock and preload only adjustable front end. The ST4s gets 5 spoke cast Aluminum wheels, the ST3 gets 3 spoke units. (SLIGHTLY heavier).
You probably saw this, too:

"Real clean 2002 ST4S
Much aftermarket carbon

Runs perfect

"wrong" color, but closer than FL
Me again. I did one long-distance deal, for a 907ie, from a private party. It looked great, the list of mods etc. was great, he had an honest voice, and the bike was all right when it got here, but as I got into it, there were just too many "surprises," things I could have seen by crawling all over the bike, getting down on the ground, pulling the seat and fairings off, etc., nothing fatal, just another $1K to set it right. So, for me, no more long distance deals, dealer or private party, but that's just me.
well the st4 sure is ugly but it has a banana seat so....
