180/55 VS 180/60

I have my R6s track bike and I need new tires. I run middle of the pack yellow group at TTD. At the moment the bike has a 180/60 SC1 rear. I'm wondering if I'll notice a huge difference in a 180/60 SC1 VS a 180/55 SC2? The 180/55 tires are slightly less expensive which would mean I have more money for more track days

I'm out there with you, and about the same pace, give or take (mostly take... I'm the guy on the distinctive blue and yellow R6 who you've no doubt passed on more than one occasion). I run 180/55 SC2s. If you're asking whether you'll notice the size difference, I doubt it... but then, I'm no expert. My rains are 60s and I can't detect any difference in the way the bike handles.

If you're asking about compound, to be honest I don't think we're fast enough for it to make a significant difference in anything except wear. Truth be told, in yellow we could be out there on sport touring tires and be just fine; with the changeable weather this year I ran my last weekend on some Angel GTs and was riding as well and as fast as I ever have.

Thing is, a lot of this game is in your head. Soft, sticky rubber breeds confidence and gives you one less thing to worry about. That's why I run the SCs... simple as that.

Bottom line: Go for the cheaper tires. Money spent on track time beats money spent on equipment every time.

+1 from both. Try it and see how yo like it. you can always drop the front so quicken the steering if you find the steering heavy.

The 180/60 is taller and wider than the 180/55 - it actually has more rubber on the ground at any lean angle.

That said, at yellow group pace, you may not really need the extra contact patch from the 180/60.

We do sell(and thus stock) very few 180/55 rears, so I do suggest ordering these two weeks before the TTD you want them installed at, to make sure I've got one with your name on it.

Another thing to consider would be the Rosso Corsa, if you're looking for extend your tire budget. They are priced pretty low, and have more than enough in them for yellow group pace, and we do have them in the 180/60 size.

The Rosso Corsa is no joke. Great tire for the money and you will not shed a tear when the rain comes.. Just go ride.

I would also suggest the 180/60 rossa as the better alternative. The 180/60 is the better "shape" for track riding. There's a reason the other brands are now copying Pirelli on it.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I got a really good deal on a set of Q3+ to try, if I don't like those I'll keep them for my street bike and get a set of Rossa's for next season.

I have that tire on my Hypermotard and it is amazing. Feels like a race tire, wears like a street tire.
