Can anybody tell me how to register an ATV in NH? My wife and I live in MA, and would like to try to do some riding in NH this summer, and we would like to register our machines *before* we arrive there, so that we do not have to spend time running around trying to get it done when we get there. Can this be done through the mail, or over the web? We are hoping that the NH system is not as convoluted as the MA system...We are trying to avoid having to drive into a NH city to obtain the registrations.
We currently have 2 machines - 1 bought new (MA sales tax paid at time of purchase), and 1 bought used (nothing paid yet).
Is it helpful to have them registered in MA first? Will we have to pay sales tax in both states? Are the registrations only available at a NH RMV? or are they available elsewhere (like Fishing licenses)?
AFAIK you'll have to drive to NH to do it. Out of state registrations are available at many dealerships, some stores, etc. You can get a list of locations off the NH .gov somewhere IIRC. Show your Mass reg, pay the fee, get the sticker.
You don't need them regi'd in MA. Just walk into the nearest NH registration station, shell out for the out-of-state regi and off you go. They expire on June 30th, so you'll obviously wanna wait a coupla weeks. I'm going by memory here, but I think out-of-state is like $64 or some shit. It's good from July 1st until June 30th...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?

This website indicates that the registrations can be done through the mail if you call the Fish and Game people at 603-271-4300 and discuss it with them.

This one is a list of all the places you can go to register your ATV in NH. Most likely you will be able to find one either on the way to where you are going riding, where you are going riding or close enough to your house that you avoid the potential hassles of mailing for your reg and just drive there and do it. All you need to have is the VIN of the machine and a photo ID. No sales tax needed just pay the out of state fee and away you go.

thanks Joel I was too lazy to look all that stuff up.
This spells it all out for you pretty neatly...

Like Joel say, you can call them for mail-in info. They've always been pretty helpful...
Of note, they now offer a 14-month decal. Only stipulation I know of is the machine must NOT have been registered before. Still probably far more sense to wait out the coupla weeks...
