Hey guys,
How's Mass about street legal dirt bikes? I'm mostly interested in small displacement and vintage stuff. I saw a TTR-225 that was RI plated which would be perfect for me in the winter and my wife in the summer. How hard would something like that be to get street legal here?
Thanks!
If it has a ri title, ma shouldn't blink an eye.

in MA, the only tricky thing about street registering a dirt bike, is bringing a title (that proves ownership) with you to get your RMV-1...
1.) if you have a title from ANY state that doesn't say "off-road only", then you bring that to the insurance agency to get an RMV-1 stamped, take that to the DMV and get your plate
2.) if alternatively only have a bill of sale AND previous street registration from ANY state; that is also sufficient to getting that RMV-1 stamped and brought to the DMV
3.) if you only have a bill of sale, you can't technically prove ownership. Sell it to someone in NH (who will issue a title IIRC) or using the VT loophole.
4.) When it's all done, bring it to a MA moto inspection station to get checked for lights, horn, brake lights, plate light, chain guard, signals, and DOT tires. Jimmy up the cheapest shit you can put on there to pass inspection...dunno how that TTR is setup (because it's not an OEM street legal vehicle), but it will need the whole lighting system (head/tail light, signals, brake lights) on with the engine off to pass inspection.

Ok, that's cool. Thanks a lot.
Yeah, the lights on/bike off thing could be tricky, but I could just rig something jenky up for that easily enough.

NH, VT are real easy to get anything plated even a Razor....I have a plated WR450 and love it. But in MA try and find a allready titled bike and not a Certificate of Origin title Bike.

unfortunately haven't gotten any smaller. i sold the xr few years ago when i had my first kiddo. i sold the vmax and got a tw, quite the change, but you know the adage - more fun to ride a slow bike fast!
the tw is a hoot, its just a goofy bike, super capable for what it is.
