My limited observation on new dirt industry trends of notworthy bikes are electric or exotic (like the beta’s), so a new dual sport (although we are seeing more models appear across the brands) isn’t ground breaking, but it is still a cool bike within the segment, at least from Honda offerings. The 250L is kind a soft turd in terms of performance, and the 450x has more of the performance we are looking for, but not factory plated...this new bike hopefully has more street bike maintenance intervals, still adequate power/suspension/adequately light, and the 6 speed hopefully gives more gear on the slab. Still haven’t seen hp numbers (or weight) and the $10,000 Msrp seems a bit on the high side.
The WR250 plated is adequate but not super high performance
Edit: 289 lbs![]()

Woah.. nice.
6 speed. Plated from the showroom floor. Sub 300 lbs. Honda build and reliability (no doubt).
Says 450R mil. So I'm guessing maintenance requirements will be MX-like. Not a deal breaker IMO.
Well done Honda! (Now, do a Rally version!)
Yamaha, where's your WR450R?!
oh, no shit...
this is, in fact, the bike the internet has been clamoring for for about forever.
Smart play by Honda, for sure, they'll sell tons of them.

So it is a slightly detuned, quieter CRF450X that is 50 state legal right out of the box.
Exactly what a lot of people have been asking for years for. The 50 state legal right out of the box is the big thing. Yes there are states where you can road register a CRF450X but in the majority of states (I believe) that isn't possible. People in those states should love this bike as a woods weapon of choice. Probably be a way to get the power of the CRF450X out of it shortly and lose some of the excess weight thanks to the aftermarket.
I thought what I paid for the WR was obscene for a dirt bike, baseprice of over $10k? No thanks.
Looks like it's pretty much an overweight Beta/KTM competitor. High price, high maintenance, no passenger pegs, probably can't hold much luggage on the sub-frame. I'm not seeing why people are so excited over this other than it being Japanese as opposed to the typical European bikes in this segment. Am I missing something?

"289 pounds (Includes all standard equipment, required fluids and full tank of fuel—ready to ride.)" And that's 2.01g of fuel. Because 2.0g would be too simple.
Specs from Honda, in case anyone was wondering the same.

Nice to have options. Especially if one were invested in the team red ecosystem. Ie for someone with a pile of Crf wheels. Or even just someone that knows the crf well and wants a street bike that is familiar.
I think this is good for all.
Think this will be the shot across the bow of Suzuki to step up the SM to fuel injection? I know it’s not going for the same demographic, but at least try to match the other companies tech?
I don't see the Suzi SM or normal DRZ competing in the same space as the CRF450L just based on MSRP alone. $6699 / $7299 vs $10,399 I see no reason for Suzuki to do anything that'd result in a cost bump.
People might have wanted but will they buy??

Good for Honda to do this.
It's right in line with the pricing of the KTM platable bikes as far as price.
Now if they shed a couple grand off it, it would be THE next big thing.

My guess is right around 40, but that's still way under Beta and KTMs current offerings.

I will say, in the land of $10k KTM's as the only real option for streetable but still top performing offroad machines, more competition is welcome. THANK you, Honda.
Now if they could put a ZX10R motor into a KX450 frame, I'd be happy.

25hp no way haha...450x is 46ish...this will be plenty power to get in trouble...but if people really slab with it I am
Guessing the maintenance will be heavy
Almost sure I will see some at LAB2V this year
Again I don’t know much but I always associated the -L nomenclature for a defined heavy street model that was consistent across all models (XR250L and 650L as air cooled turds)...but the 250L and 450L are vastly different
