Put this on the local shooting forum but in case anyone is interested I figured I would post it here. Since this is a MA compliant piece I would like to see it stay in MA.
From FS thread:
I bought this gun about 1-2 months ago and it just doesn't quite work for me, I have replaced it with something else and could use the money back since they are similar in value (actually the new one was a little more money)
This is a pre-ban 2.5 gen, manufactured in september 98. 2.5 gens pre ban were only made for several months. The only difference between a 2.5gen and the 3rd gen is the presence a slightly different extractor. In the case of the 26 the 3rd gen didn't have a rail either so there is essentially no difference. You could change the extractor for short money by buying the part online and you'd have a 3rd gen. No 3rd gens were made until late 1999.
I am the second owner, the first owner as far as I can tell literally never shot it. Ever. I have only put about 400 rounds through it and it has functioned flawlessly for all. I carried it about 3 times, no wear resulted from that. It's in mint shape and I have cleaned/lubed it four times in that span.
Comes with box, mag loader, 2 10 round mags, elite clip IWB holster.
I dont have any new pictures, everyone knows what these look like. If you really want pictures and are interested I can take some. I have attached a couple pictures (with serial data blocked out) from when I bought it originally, they are fairly low quality pics though.
The ONLY trade I will consider is a S&W 1911PD model (all black). Otherwise cash only.
I can do FTF in the metrowest area (at the Wayland Rod and Gun Club, if you'd like to shoot it and are very serious about the purchase) or FFL at buyer's expense at four seasons.
$700 OBRO. Since retail sales of beat up second gens go for this price plus tax, I think this is a fair price for a mint 2.5gen and no tax with extra mag and holster.

What is the process for selling something like this?
HI marky
Let's go shootin... tricky mike and I went yesterday, good times.
I can do it face to face on an FA-10 form or transfer at an FFL at the buyer's cost. I would prefer FTF on FA-10 near me instead of driving to an FFL (nearest is pretty much woburn)
THe potential buyer cannot meet today, if anyone can meet today they can buy it, otherwise he will have first dibs when I get back from travel.
Obviously the buyer must be properly licensed. (class A)

why would someone choose to go through ffl rather than ftf? just curious

this is now SOLD
A couple of reasons...
1. if the seller has already used his 4 transfers for the given calendar year (each individual is allowed 4 sales, unlimited purchases) the only way is FFL
2. in this case the gun is MA compliant, so a seller may not wish to 'waste' a transfer for a gun that could be done through FFL.
3. added security for all, getting the opinion/expertise of the shop, ensuring all the forms are filed correctly/legality, etc...
