I got a text message from Yamaha this morning informing me the new for '22 R7 is available for order. Having ridden the 660, I am interested to see how this compares.
However, no plans to get rid of my R6 anytime soon. I would like to see an R9 with the CP3 motor...
Thoughts?

R07 would have been a better name. Once we get past those feelings it looks like it could be great platform, the FZ is already being raced quite a bit.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
I got excited that by the time I may be ready for a track bike, this would be the one. Nope.
Name is misleading for sure.
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
As a prior R7 OW-02 owner, the designation of R7 is meaningless. OW-01 and OW-02 is where the value in a designated name comes from.
I’m sure the new one is a cool bike, I won’t be buying one.
Yamaha
Yamaha just emailed me that all deposit slots have already been filled (I'm not sure how I even got on these things). I find it a little surprising the deposits are booked up already. Personally, I think the Yamaha may be the better racer platform, but the RS660 may be the better street bike. Like I said before, I will be holding onto my R6.
I would not be surprised in the least if a lot of r6 owners that got the email do not understand the difference between the R6 and the R7, other than assuming the displacement is a little more.

Price is good. Suspension is fully adjustable. Weight is good as well at 414 lbs. Looks good. I think they would do well to keep the clip-on's above the triple tree not to give the wrong impression
I’m curious how it would do again the Kramer snd the ktm
Similar, if not the same, power of the FZ07 engine is pretty hard to compete with these 100hp 790 dukes & RS660’s on the race track.
For the street and/or track day rider I think this would be a great choice. Just enough power to use the full gear box unlike the typical I4’s and hopefully with some fine tuning these will handle on rails. From riding a well tuned SV on the street I like the appeal of this as a replacement though I’m a cheap bastard and wouldn’t drop that much coin on an FZ07 with fairings.
An SP version would spice this offering up a bit as I'm sure I am not the only one that finds the MT09 SP enticing as a street and track duty machine. I wanted to love/need to buy the RS660 but I'm seeing too many service bulletins and reliability issue reports to make me want it.
I think for people who've been enticed by the FZ07r builds they see around tracks this is a nice option that would need less in terms of complete build. I'm older and busted up due to injuries by now so I don't need horsepower over convenience, reliability and fun factor.
I wonder if they have fixed the geometry issues that the fz07 had? I also wonder what they are running for a rear link? The frame and geometry was the weak point of the "fz07R" so I'm curious how much this has improved...
I understand the purpose of this bike. I don't think it's addressed to take down the RS660 but is closer to the ethos of the Tenere 700. Make it desirable BUT make it CHEAP as possible. Same CP2 engine with suspension that is capable of being used on a track. Geometry has been changed for race track with a steeper steering head angle. Brakes upgraded to radial mount and radial master cylinder. I see this as the replacement to the SV650 track bike. Hopefully it lasts as long as an SV in that track duty.
The Aprilia RS660 is more like KTM's ready to race ethos. When you ride a KTM790/890 ADV bike and then ride the T7 you see and feel immediately the differences in every component. That $3-$4k in saving went everywhere. Same with this bike. It's no R7 of old but for what it is I think they will sell a bunch of them.
Send cash... I need a track day
