Yesterday I had the chance to take the 1 on 1 school at the BOMO trackday.
There were some bugs that needed to be worked out and some crashes that kind of messed up the schedule but all in all it was a good day.
I got 2 sessions on track with Doug, both of which I had to wave off early because I was WORKING and I got tired! All the while Doug was out for an easy ride watching me in his mirrors the whole time. I could have had a 3rd session late in the day (and possibly a 4th if the crashes hadn't occured) but I was beat, it was hot and I just wanted to cement some stuff in my mind at a slower pace so I took the ZX6R out in Novice (with Ducdaves approval) and lapped the field (and Doug with his novice student) twice looking for Adam who was on his 1st trackday, come to find out he had come in after a lap to fix a header bolt. Sorry Adam.
Doug also came over and tweaked the suspension on the Hawk. He said "That should be good for a smooth thrack, I don't know about here, Go out and tell me what you think" It was an immediate improvement! I had been riding the Hawk all this time and hardly touched the suspension. He took 10 minutes and adjusted EVERYTHING and it felt like a new bike! That alone must be good for a second or 2. The thing just RAILS now, The drive seems better, I have more corner clearance... I am happy. (I should have had Pete or Mike do it a LONG time ago, note to racers, get your suspension adjusted!)
Speaking of times. My lap timer wasn't working and Doug made mention of how we were going MUCH faster in the afternoon than we were in the morning (I think I was in the 1:26's). I had to ask what he thought our times were and he said "Low 20's I wouldn't be surprised if you did a 19."
We shall see if I have what it takes to back it up and make it official this weekend. I do feel more confident on the bike so only time will tell.
All in all it was a good time, I got some great tips, a suspension tweak and a cool autograph!
