2001 KTM 250 EXC four stroke?

I'm having a pretty tough time finding online info about this bike... the only 250 EXC's I've been finding info about are two strokes.

Can someone point me in the right direction? I might be looking at one of these in the very near future.

The engine is a crazy overbuilt for it's output SOHC single. It's literally the same cases as a 560SMR, just with a wee wittle cranky-wanky and piddly-poo piston. Keep the oil fresh and beat on it like a thing you really beat on. Chassis/etc should be the same as an 01 450 EXC.

Gotcha.... anwhere online where I can learn more about this particular model?
Is "250 EXC four stroke" the official model name? Cuz again, I'm only finding info on the 2 stroke version.

Example.... www.rockymountainatvmc.com only lists the 250 exc 4 stroke for 2003-2005

Ktm has had a bunch of small batch runs imported here. If it is an 01 its likely part of one of those. If it is an 03-05 it's essentially the same bike, maybe with different plastics.

You'll likely NOT have the same problems with the lower end I'm having with my turd. The top end is 50-50 like any other dirty. Ktm ti valves aren't cheap, if it needs work, id recommend stainless. If the top end has been done in it's lifetime, and it isn't too trashed, it'll probably be fine for trail riding and light ds duty. .02

In other news, I just heard back from the seller... says he's outta town till tomorrow but will call me when he gets back & it was listed as a 2001 but it's actually a 2002.

How about ktmtalk? That forum isnt super user friendly, but if tech-talk is your thing, there is a wealth of knowledge. Also, try the thumpers section on adv. Don't be alluded by the orange crush section, that's for the ktm twins.

Well that friggin sucks... got an email from the seller today. expected it to say "come on by, I get home from work at..."

Nope... said he looked at a bike in Maine & realized how much he loves his KTM so he's taking it off the market

Thats back into the range of years that I feel KTM was still wacky. Their new bikes are dope but they just used to be down right weird and quirky

I am loving the 200 exc that I got. I swear, it is the best woods bike I have ever been on. I really didn't want to go the 2 stroke route again, but I have no regrets now. Plus, it keeps the 450 sx company.

Looking to spend no more than 2k and want something I can register for occational street use.
